Helping Providence Kids Learn

LLC members currently serve as tutors at Providence’s Veazie Street Elementary School. They work with students who are behind in their reading and math skills, helping to improve their learning outcomes, which encourages attendance and general enjoyment of school. At the half point of the 2023-24 school year, the school administration reported:

  • LLC tutors spent more than 600 hours with the students
  • More than 50 students were tutored
  • 13 students made a year of growth by the middle of the school year
  • 8 students made more than a year of growth by the middle of the school year
  • 25 students increased their grade level by the middle of the school year
  • 11 Multilingual Learners exited MLL services this year
  • 99 Multilingual Learners increased their overall Language score on ACCESS Testing
  • 38 students increased their scaled score

The end results indicated student growth in math and literacy.

Janice Golden is an experienced lifelong educator who worked with children through adults in her career. Janice founded and led a preschool program for 40 years. She has also tutored adults and designed curriculum for children.

Norma Rossi Mead has served as a volunteer tutor and facilitator/trainer for adult learners.
