LLC Ranger-guided Tour of Old Slater Mill

December 4 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

LLC’s Cultural Activities and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committees present A private ranger-guided tour of Old Slater Mill National Historic Landmark – Including their most recent exhibit “Laboring for Freedom: African Americans in the Blackstone River Valley.”

Old Slater Mill is the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. Originally constructed in 1793, this mill stands as an important reminder of the changes brought on by industrialization.

THE TOUR
As part of our tour of the Mill, we will have an extended talk on the most recent exhibit, Laboring for Freedom: African Americans in the Blackstone River Valley, by a ranger historian. This exhibit opened on October 18th and will only be in place until late December.

We will meet inside the Mill (67 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI 02860) at 10:15 AM. The tour will start promptly at 10:30 AM. We will begin with a short video and proceed with our Ranger guide to the exhibits. We will have the opportunity to ask questions and spend up to 90 minutes with a Park Ranger.

ACCESSIBILITY
The mill is handicap accessible but does have uneven floors. Seating will be available at each exhibit. Bathrooms, elevators, and drinking water are available.

PARKING/CARPOOLING
There is a large parking lot at the site. A list of members signed up for the tour will be distributed one week before the event to help you facilitate carpooling.

Lunch is on your own. A list of restaurants near the Old Slater Mill will be sent out to participants before the event.
